That coat is half our route. Salt water dries the skin and beach sand works down into the undercoat where a quick rinse never reaches it. We do a double bath with a full blow-out that pushes sand and loose undercoat up and out, plus a paw and pad check for sandspurs. If your dog is a regular at the beach or on the boat, a recurring 4–6 week schedule keeps the coat and skin ahead of it.
Most coated breeds (doodles, shih tzus, poodles, yorkies) do best every 4–6 weeks. Double-coated shedders (labs, shepherds, huskies) typically need a bath and de-shed every 6–8 weeks — more during a Coast spring, when the humidity keeps coats blowing out.
